About

Matt is a 10 year Major League Veteran who spent the majority of his time in the big leagues with the Tigers and Yankees. Matt started his career in the San Francisco Giants farm system and was quickly promoted to their Major League team in 1985 when he was 21 years old.

After being traded to the Detroit Tigers and later to the New York Yankees Matt enjoyed a successful career becoming a Major League All-Star and a Silver Slugger Award Winner. Matt also played a short time with the Baltimore Orioles and the Colorado Rockies and then went to spring training with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1996 but had to retire due to injuries. After a year of rest to heal up from some injuries, he made a come back as a player coach in the minor leagues. After a couple of successful seasons as a player coach the Cleveland Indians invited him to their Major League Spring Training Camp in 2000.

In early February 2000 a week before he left for spring training, Matt landed his high performance Lancair IV airplane on the south bound (I-15) freeway at Rancho Bernardo Rd.

Matt was offered a minor league contract to wait in the wings for an opportunity to fill in if the Major League Team had an injury. Matt opted to continue as a player coach/manager in the minor leagues where he led the league in hitting a couple more years before retiring to his home town of San Diego in 2004.

Throughout Matt’s career he has been coaching youth from little league players to professional. Matt has always stayed at the cutting edge of the training information and technology. Matt continues to have incredible success with the players he coaches and he always stresses that “what ever level you play at is the Major Leagues for you.”

With A 95mph fastball…

to mine and everyone else’s surprise, I caught the ball under my arm and threw it back at him, like a catcher firmly sends it back to the pitcher!

“Step by step solutions
to a successful hitting career”

The idea of “Hitting Solutions” started 25 years ago as I began my campaign to get to the big leagues.

Like most of you, as a young hitter I tried a lot of hitting styles and adjustments but always seemed to be chasing my tail. It wasn’t until Hall of Famer Frank Robinson got a hold of me and taught me about discipline and the major league plan that I started seeing the path that I needed to take to become a major league hitter. I want to share this incredible experience with you, teaching you layer by layer how the best hitters program their thinking and develop routines to master the mechanical absolutes. You’ll learn how to create a simple picture for the process. Nothing will distract you from your objective for hitting the ball hard. You’ll be able to feel how timing and solid contact become one feeling.

My philosophy is simple…

  • Make sure my students understand timing (which means dealing correctly with the pitchers delivery)
  • They have a daily routine with drills that make sense for their hitting style so that they’re able to sum up their mechanics into that “ONE FEEL”
  • Mechanics have to be “ONE THING”, one thought, one focus…the feeling of a good ball strike.
  • If you know how to sync up the pitcher consistently, you can feel solid contact within you, and you are prepared with the Major League Plan…you’ll be successful.
